Harvard study proves effectiveness of Meditation

Image
I'm absolutely thrilled at this news.  Harvard proves the positive effects of Meditation by studying MR (magnetic resonance) images of the brain's of participants of students taking part in a 8 week 'Mindful Meditation' programme.  Images were taken 2 weeks before and after the programme and showed significant increase in 'gray-matter density in the hippocampus, known to be important for learning and memory, and in structures associated with self-awareness, compassion and introspection.'  For such a highly regarded institute to publish a paper on what was previously classed as 'pseudoscience' (pseu·do·sci·ence (so͞o′dō-sī′əns) n. A theory, methodology, or practice that is considered to be without scientific foundation.) this is fantastic news! Proof that a simple daily exercise which involves just breathing and clearing your mind can improve the effectiveness and health of your brain! Next, hopefully, we'll start to see proof on what ...

Life Begins Outside of your Comfort Zone

Image
An author named 'Neale Donald Walsch' said this... and it rings true in so many ways with me. We too easily become comfortable with our current circumstance, with the safety of our regular routines, work, social, TV, friend groups etc. I enjoy trying new things, I enjoy experiencing the new feelings straying from this safety net - I'm not saying comfort is not something that can benefit us, it's definitely in the comfort of these routines we find sanctuary, a safe place to find ourselves, to analyse our findings from the previous stage of our life but if we stay there, stay put in this somewhat mundane life it can bring, I believe this can be detrimental to life. Real life. Progress, growth and new, exciting times, times which encourage us to learn even more about ourselves. I'm not saying I'm on a constant roller coaster, but I'm sure as hell working towards jumping on that ride.

I started a facebook group some years ago to be somewhere people can share their findings on the more... 'spiritual'(?) side of life. There have been amazing posts in there about consciousness, quantum physics, mind-altering drugs + so much more. I find it all fascinating and feel lucky to have a group of people online to share these interests with! "The distinction between 'in here' and 'out there' is a false one..."

Image
We are not onlookers peering into the unified field of separate, objective reality - we are the unified field. We can reach beyond the physical body and extend the influence of intelligence. Every thought you are thinking creates a wave in the unified field. It ripples through all the layers of intellect, mind, senses, and matter, spreading out in wider and wider circles. You are like a light radiating not photons but consciousness. As they radiate, your thoughts have an effe ct on everything. Your relationship to life is the same as that of one cell to your whole body. One cell can talk to your whole body. One cell can influence your whole body. You can talk to the whole of life - influence the whole of life. The whole of life is as alive as we are. The distinction between 'in here' and 'out there' is a false one - as if the heart disregarded the skin because it was not on the inside. Deepak Chopra

A Century of the Self

Image
I've just watched part 3 of this series, a documentary by Adam Curtis.  Stunned. The brief explanation is below - this is a documentary describing how the PR industry was created in order to manipulate the masses (population) and to keep us under control... 'for our own safety'  It is also about the clever creation of consumerism, orchestrating mind control advertising to keep us purchasing goods from the Capitalist corporations... definitely for our individual benefit, right? (no) I find these eye-opening teachings fascinating yet, somewhat disturbing at times. This still goes on today, more than we think we are categorised into stereotypes, not just demographic (age, gender, class etc) by our core values and beliefs. We are encouraged to be individuals... and then sold products to enhance our individualism.. makes sense doesn't it? (not)  Here's the summary of the documentary.. if you're like me and love learning about life and the way things (apparen...
