She Just Wanna Dance - [Hospital Records] #MeToo

Image
When Hospital Records asked for women involved in the industry to be a part of a campaign promoting the #MeToo message I signed up - so you may or may not see my face included in this powerful music video for the Inja x Whiney track, 'She Just Wanna Dance' " After going viral last year with his spoken word poem for  HuffPost UK  'She Just Wanna Dance',  Inja 's powerful and important commentry on harrassment in club culture has been given a D+B rework by  Med School  young-gun  Whiney ." The track is taken from Inja's LP, 'Blank Pages' which you can buy or stream here

My growing love for Radio Presenting

A couple of years ago I wrote on this blog  about how much I would love to present my own radio show. It's something that has been in the back of my mind for years and years but my lack of personal confidence always stopped me from pursuing it seriously. Amazingly, off the back of that post I was invited to appear as a guest host for the TRAP93 show on Reprezent FM which was a fantastic experience at a well-run community based station that is doing great things, and seeing how supportive their environment is for it's members and the artists it features and promotes really watered my interest in the world of radio. Fast forwarding to 2018 (how has time gone so quickly?) I am now presenting the UK Bass Music show with my co-host, Lara on Subtle FM. It's a monthly show, and although we've only presented two shows from the studio so far, I'm becoming more comfortable and (hopefully) more entertaining for the listeners. The most important thing is that the music we p...

The UK Bass Music show on Sub FM with Lara & Nikki

Image
Lara and I host a monthly slot on internet radio station, Sub FM where we curate the UK Bass Music show representing music we love and write about on our blog, ukbassmusic.com Whilst we're still starting out and getting used to the technicals (neither of us are DJs) the idea of being able to present some of the amazing music we get sent to our listeners is what helps crack the initial nerves... it's about the music and the spreading of the love first and foremost, we also stream our faces live over on facebook each show to increase the reach of the sounds. You can lock in every 4 Monday's (next one 11th Jan 2018) and in the meantime you can listen or watch back the shows and appreciate this sick music with us.

Importance of human connection

Each day we connect with others, a brief smile, a glance, a full-blown conversation and everything in between; each of these moments are incredibly important to our life-experience and often overlooked.  Human connection is magical.  Human energy exchange through any of the senses can and does so often reflect to us the parts of us we love, or not. Every single person and every individual situation is a reflection of who we are at that current second... either use it as a mirror, disconnect and allow it to be the tool it is meant to be, a growth awareness reflection.. or, subscribe to the emotion it drums up in us, be a victim, either to the 'negative' or the 'positive'. You choose. You ALWAYS choose.

Today was Peachy and I's annual meet up.  Peachy is one of those friends who gets it. I'm blessed to have such a beautiful person in my life. She's one of my main examples of not having to have known each other years, nor even know most things about, but when you're together it clicks. No need or time for idol chit chat to cure any silences, no filler-convo. All meaningful, all relevant, all heartfelt and all perfect. Perfectly timed and perfectly executed. Plus we eat cake and drink tea.  We may see each other only twice a year, but just knowing she's out there existing makes my happiness more complete.  V.Lucky.  Join Peachy on her blog here .

The journey continues...

Image
For most of my adult life, at least as long as I can remember I've had this strong attraction to the Incan ruins of Machu Picchu high up in the mountains in Cusco, Peru, South America. I didn't know anything about it apart from seeing beautiful images and developed a  knowing that one day I would love to experience it. It's been on my Google doc-based bucket list for quite some time now. We have these dreams, these wishes that you say 'one day' about, don't we? Then life kinda swirls us up into the routine that our Western culture programs into us and we either forget about these 'dreams' or we keep them in the 'one day' pile stuck behind our mounds of distractive escapism and binge-filled weekends and I have become so conscious over the years of not wanting to stagnate, you know, I'm not saying we can't enjoy those routines, the comfort they provide has a lot of use, especially in certain periods of life but I just can't help th...

#MusicMondays: Hot Chip - Need You Now

Image
I've never really paid too much attention to Hot Chip but since I heard this playing on Rinse FM quite a few months back and subsequently 'Shazamed' it, I've revisited it time and time again, so thought, if I love it, then plenty of you will too, so here it is.  The female vocal has an old school sound to it which I love, real nostalgia but brought up to date with modern synths accompanied with a melancholic and warming vocal which sort of hugs you on those rainy English days. Love it.

#MusicMondays: Eone6 & NinthDelta mix for Kool Kids Klub

Resident DJs at one of the best events in Essex, Eone6 & NinthDelta have been hyping up dancefloors for quite some years, and off the back of being absolute sublime selecta's they've built up quite the following. and for very good reason too.  Their sets offer the full journey into House, UK Garage swerving into Techno, Grime and Dubstep. Basically if you want a party these two will provide an infinite amount of pure, unadulterated vibes.  They've just put together an incredible example of their skills and kindly allowed free downloads, I recommend downloading this for your commute/gym session/tidy up time around the house - I'm on the double digits of listen already and am still loving it, it's a mix that just keeps giving!! Cereal (Psycho) Killer

Image
Finally got to experience the Cereal Killer Cafe on Brick Lane last week and it lived up to expectations! of course, it is what it says, it's a cafe... where you order cereal... but the combinations, cocktails and selection is unreal! Definitely worth a pop in if you're in the area. They also have a store in Camden Lock Market too which I'm assured has beds with retro bedding too! link:  http://cerealkillercafe.co.uk/the-cafe

Tonight I guest host on Reprezent 107.3 FM with Trap93

Image
Remember last week I said I wanted my own radio show? Well the universe gifted me with a fantastic opportunity to gain some practice! This evening 7-9 PM GMT I'll be guest Presenter on the Trap93 show on Reprezent FM which is based in Brixton, SW London. Massive thanks to Ezekiel, the owner of Trap93, for inviting me up. Terribly nervous, let's see how this goes! Tune in either online on  http://www.reprezent.org.uk/  or if you're in the London area it's 107.3 on the FM dial (who uses dials these days?! but you know what I mean)

I want my own Radio show - Ministry of Sound Radio

Image
I'm personally not a supporter of 'New Year Resolutions' as such as I don't need a date on a calendar to set new goals for myself, however, for some time it's been in the back of mind for some time that I'd like a radio show of my own, somewhere to showcase the music I love, waffle about the topics that are important to me and have general hashtag banter. This got me reflecting on a time when I had a show on Ministry of Sound radio, representing the booking agency I ran at the time, Acute Promotions, and as nervewracking as it was I absolutely loved it. I decided to upload on of those shows to Soundcloud for anyone that fancies a listen, so here it is; this show featured a guest mix from Soap Dodgers, a duo I managed for some time, helping them gain traction in their career, it was a great time full of experiences, lessons and successes. enjoy!

Flowdan signs to Tru Thoughts

Image
I've been managing Flowdan for around 5 years and during that time we've been hard at work consistently in different areas  of his career, long days, late nights - working on things behind the scenes that most people don't even see, however, more recently he's been locked away in the studio working on something we can actually announce! in 2016 Flowdan will be releasing his debut album. It feels so good to be able to talk about it! A lot of 'we can't discuss' situations occur when working with someone on their career, a lot of achievements, movements and progression is made over time but are bound by the restrictions of not revealing information too soon for multiple reasons; sometimes things don't come through as you first envisioned, other times they get scrapped for simply being 'not right' and to blab about things before they are confirmed would ultimately leave a trail of false promises littered behind you, never a good look. So...

Flowdan photoshoot

Image
last week we braved the cold air of London for a photoshoot with Flowdan. Manners!  Set next to recognisable location in East London, this shoot is for a long awaited, exciting project Flowdan has been working on recently. It'll be a proud day when the announcement is made.. until then, we've some work to do!

Set your priorities right, because if you chase two rabbits you will lose them both

Image
I've always been one to keep myself busy and throw myself into projects, but recently, as I'm growing older and more experienced, I realise that it's perhaps best to focus in fewer directions and achieve more than spread yourself too thinly therefore not nurturing any of them as much as they deserve. Synchronicity Records and it's releases have been a passion of mine for a few years now but has suffered  from lack of attention recently due to lack of time, my time, so I have decided that it's best to take a hiatus from releasing the music I love in order to focus on other projects I'm handling currently. I'd like to think that this is definitely not the end, more a readjustment of priorities until such time occurs where I can give it, and the associated artists the love they deserve.  Up until now it has been an absolute pleasure to be entrusted with such talented individuals' art, and I cannot wait for the day when I can dedicate myself once...

Coming?
