My growing love for Radio Presenting

A couple of years ago I wrote on this blog  about how much I would love to present my own radio show. It's something that has been in the back of my mind for years and years but my lack of personal confidence always stopped me from pursuing it seriously. Amazingly, off the back of that post I was invited to appear as a guest host for the TRAP93 show on Reprezent FM which was a fantastic experience at a well-run community based station that is doing great things, and seeing how supportive their environment is for it's members and the artists it features and promotes really watered my interest in the world of radio. Fast forwarding to 2018 (how has time gone so quickly?) I am now presenting the UK Bass Music show with my co-host, Lara on Subtle FM. It's a monthly show, and although we've only presented two shows from the studio so far, I'm becoming more comfortable and (hopefully) more entertaining for the listeners. The most important thing is that the music we p...

Fancy writing for a music blog?

Image
Are you the type of person who, when you discover a sick track, video, album etc. that you just want to share that beauty with anyone who would remotely appreciate it's worth? Or are you a budding journalist with a keen interest in electronic music be that dubstep, house, techno, drum & bass and anything in between and would like to build up your online profile as a respected writer? Whether you're either, or both, I run a music blog ukbassmusic.com and am looking for you to come and join our team. You don't need to be a whizz at computers or web stuff, you just need to have a passion for spreading the good word of amazing music out there and sharing it with our readers. You'll receive your own profile which you will link to your social networks to start building your own following and most importantly you'll be a part of a team sharing our ethos of promoting bass culture. UKBassMusic is back online

Image
Some years ago, Lara and I spent months (+ the rest) setting up UKBassMusic.com - it was an all-singing, all-dancing interactive magazine with interviews, reviews, event listings, videos, mixes and so much more relating to the scene(s) we love within Electronic Music.  We ran it, successfully for over a year, providing amazing content for our readers from a dedicated team of writers and it naturally grew in popularity and respect by the day. Unfortunately we had to bed the site due to some technical issues and it laid dormant for around 3 years until we could work out how we could manage such a workload in a productive way ensuring to not skimp on quality of content.  Well, it's back. It's in it's infancy at the moment, so come and join us for the ride.  We've uploaded all the UKBMixes here  - which I'm currently listening through and reminding myself of. Some bangers in there.

Bonobo is back with a new single

Image
Simon Green is back once again and to say I'm excited is an understatement. I absolutely love Bonobo, up there with my favourites, he generally provides warm melodies partnered with garage-y beats with this new one supplying the expected goods as per. 'Kerala' is the first single taken from his album 'Migration' due in Jan '17, the video meditates on a pretty deep subject whilst being as hypnotic as his video for Cirrus. Enjoy it as much as I have x

#MusicMondays: Eone6 & NinthDelta UKBMix 029

Image
Providing a bit of variety, for this week's non-Monday Music Monday I wanted to highlight this superb mix from my talented other half, NinthDelta and his partner in crime, Eone6. Compiled earlier this year, the guys slaved over the decks for hours on end putting together a lovely little mix for UK Bass Music. Featuring the likes of Robert Hood, Hodge and my personal favourite from the Dub Techno scene, Rhythm & Sound. The movement in this set makes it a perfect commuting, chilling or getting ready for a night out accompaniment. Enjoy with me x and for more, follow him on Mixcloud & Twitter

#MusicMondays: Hot Chip - Need You Now

Image
I've never really paid too much attention to Hot Chip but since I heard this playing on Rinse FM quite a few months back and subsequently 'Shazamed' it, I've revisited it time and time again, so thought, if I love it, then plenty of you will too, so here it is.  The female vocal has an old school sound to it which I love, real nostalgia but brought up to date with modern synths accompanied with a melancholic and warming vocal which sort of hugs you on those rainy English days. Love it.

#MusicMondays: Eone6 & NinthDelta mix for Kool Kids Klub

Resident DJs at one of the best events in Essex, Eone6 & NinthDelta have been hyping up dancefloors for quite some years, and off the back of being absolute sublime selecta's they've built up quite the following. and for very good reason too.  Their sets offer the full journey into House, UK Garage swerving into Techno, Grime and Dubstep. Basically if you want a party these two will provide an infinite amount of pure, unadulterated vibes.  They've just put together an incredible example of their skills and kindly allowed free downloads, I recommend downloading this for your commute/gym session/tidy up time around the house - I'm on the double digits of listen already and am still loving it, it's a mix that just keeps giving!! #MusicMondays: Moomin - Time Circles

Image
Recommended earlier today by a friend with impeccable music taste this one got me choked.  I've already listened several times and it seems like each time i do, my brain and heart gives it a different meaning, like re-visiting a dream and trying to interpret it depending on what mood you're in. First time it was happy,  like a soundtrack to a new beginning in life. The second listen was slightly sad as if letting go of an old way of life to move on. Both feeling states seemingly representing the same situation yet from different viewpoints but no matter what the emotion I can't deny the power behind this beautiful track. Wait for the strings. Close your eyes. And enjoy the journey x Grab this track and the other releases on Closer Records >  http://closer-music.com/

#MusicMondays: Menik & Arkist - Lift

Image
VIBES! Beautiful track (and free download) from our boy Menik and Bristol artist, Arkist.  It's supported by Oneman, Monki and Rob from Tru Thoughts for a reason, such a bouncy, feel-good track from the two majorly talented producers, the descending bass and vocal stabs paired with the light percussion make this fit for many occasion from a Summer's day BBQ to a ipod accompanied bop to work, hit play to see what I'm talking about x link:  https://soundcloud.com/menikmusic/menik-arkist-lift-1

#MusicMondays: Anthony Naples - Busy Signal

Image
Anthony Naples - Busy Signal  Over the past couple of years I've succumbed to the hypnotic 4x4 kick drum more and more, this tune tickles all my aural fancies by also incorporating heavenly pads that make me want to dance around a field, unleashing my inner, not-so-hidden hippy. Add a brushed snare in there and you've a combination fit for a flower headband wearing Princess. Released on Trilogy Tapes , listen here: and watch the best video you've probably ever seen here:

#MusicMondays Danny Scrilla - The Rift

alright alright I know it's not 'technically' Monday but the day after a bank holiday is definitely treated as a Monday in the UK - anyone arriving at the office to 309724 emails today will know what I mean. This little beauty was introduced to me last year, it's a lovely track with lots of the plinky-plonky noises that I am ever-so predictably drawn to. It's been my ringtone ever since so, inevitably, every time I hear it I look for my phone. Still love it though! That's saying something. Nice swing to the percussion, lovely plinky plonk synth from Danny Scrilla. Keep your eyes on him. he's about to drop an EP with Kromestar and has releases on Cosmic Bridge, Civil Music + more. Oh, and if you like this, check out the rest of the EP > https://dannyscrilla.bandcamp.com/album/monolith-ep < and follow him on Twitter  @Danny_Scrilla Enjoy!

#MusicMondays: Eliphino - More than Me

Vibes for a Monday. This may be a few years old but I rediscovered it when listening to this Bonobo set It has a kind of old school feel to it, always gets me bouncing around and feeling good. Enjoy! or listen on Soundcloud here: https://soundcloud.com/eliphino/more-than-me
